OBITUARY, Opelousas Daily World, Oct 25, 2005: Barry Cobb
Barry Cobb, 58, died Sunday, October 23, 2005, in his residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, he resided in Opelousas for the last nine years. He was a graduate of Fern Creek High School and attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He was a Vietnam veteran, who served as a sky Marshal before joining the U.S. Customs Service. At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was a senior special agent.
An avid hiker and outdoorsman, he led an Explorer Scout troop and was a member of S.E.L.S.A.R., (Southeast Louisiana Search And Rescue) a non-profit organization dedicated to providing swift, effective response to the emergency needs of the citizens of Southeast Louisiana and beyond. He was also a talented artist and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marie McGee Cobb of Opelousas; his mother, Mary Alloway Cobb of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughter and son-in-law, Erin Cobb and Darran Ledoux of Opelousas; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Hayden Michael Thibodeaux and Jacey Marie Cobb of Opelousas. Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by his father, Noble Edmound Cobb.
A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 26th at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. till time of service on Wednesday at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home. Dr. Perry Hubbs will officiate. Visitation in Louisville will be on Friday from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. and re-open on Saturday at 9 a.m. till time of service.
The funeral will be held at Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville Kentucky on Saturday, October 29th at 11 a.m., with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville.
