BENTON HARBOR - Lydia E. Ammon, 83, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2007, at her daughter's home in Vicksburg.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph with Pastor Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. Friends may visit with the family beginning one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lydia was born on July 7, 1923, in Lithuania. She married George Ammon in 1942 and proudly served her family as a homemaker for many years. Caring for her home and family was her passion. Later, she worked for the former VM Corp. for several years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and caring for the pets she loved. She was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor.

She is survived by her children, Alvin (Joyce) Ammon of Hartford, Erna (Rich) Rabuck of Pittsburgh, PA, and Wilma Virkus of Vicksburg, MI; four grandchildren, Brent Virkus, Michael Virkus, Page Ammon, and Hilary Rabuck; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Ammon; a son, Harley Ammon; and her brother, Albert Segar.
