AVON - Rachel Jennette Austin, 81, died Wednesday, June 11, at an Elizabeth City hospital.

Mrs. Austin was born in Buxton. She was a retired manager of the Hatteras High School cafeteria. She was a member of the St. John's Methodist Church in Avon.

She was the daughter of the late Nasa Farrow Jennette, Sr. and the late Ethel Scarborough Jennette. She was the widow of William Julian Austin.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Bonita Williams of Avon and Faye Cartwright of Currituck; 5 sisters: Edith Bradley and Delores Gillikin of Buxton, Lorena Hornbecker of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth Hooper of Kitty Hawk and Elena Gillikin of Morehead City; one brother, Nasa Farrow Jennette, Jr. of Buxton; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Friday, June 13, at St. John's United Methodist Church . Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Avon. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge of these arrangements.
