Isaac Decker's death and burial places are unknown. He is listed as buried in this Browning Cemetery because two of his sons are buried here and to provide family links. It is likely that he died soon after he and his family moved to Meigs County, Ohio from Guernsey County, Ohio in 1836. Or he may have died during the journey, or died in Guernsey County. One family legend is that he died at "Torch", Ohio, which may have been in Meigs or Athens County. His death date may have been March 7, 1836.
He was born 1785 or 1786 probably in Sussex County, New Jersey or nearby New York or Pennsylvania. He is probably descended from early Hudson Valley Dutch settlers of that tri-state area.
There is a record that on November 28, 1809 in Sussex County, New Jersey he married his first wife Hannah Elizabeth McCollum.
In about 1817, he migrated to Island Creek Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, with his first wife Hannah McCollum, who was born 1790 in New Jersey and died 1820 in Jefferson County, Ohio, leaving Isaac with three small children, Aaron Decker (1811-1887; findagrave memorial #67697969), Abigail Decker (1814-1853; may be buried in Ohio at findagrave memorial #48020109), Stephen Overton Decker (1817-1882; findagrave memorial #9434595). A fourth child, Elizabeth Ann Decker, was born July 14 1819 and died March 1820, both in Island Creek Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, perhaps at the same time as her mother (findagrave memorial 114694559).
In 1822 Isaac Decker married his second wife, Jane Todd Wilgus, probably in Jefferson County, Ohio but possibly in New Jersey when he returned there to find a new wife. They had six children with Jane, all of whom are probably buried in Meigs County, Ohio: Nancy Wilgus (Decker) Tall (1823-1895); James Decker (1824-1865); Thomas F. Decker (1826-1901); William Decker (1827-1876); Job D. Decker (1832-1909); and Richard M. Decker (1830-1901).
In the 1830 census, he was a resident of Center Township, Guernsey County, Ohio, but there is no record that he owned land there.
Bio by Ronald Decker, his great-great-grandson.
