Madge Smith Bishop - a 79 year-old resident of Mobile passed away at a local hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Ms. Bishop was a retired registered nurse who during her long career worked at various hospitals and doctors' offices and dedicated her final years of nursing operating her own facility caring for the elderly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse T. and Myrtle Smith, and son, Joseph Anthony Laird. Ms. Bishop is survived by three children, Gary Walker, David Laird (Kimberly), and Felicia Whatley (Bret); brother, James Smith (Radine); sister, Eloise Staggs; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, September 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the service hour.
