ERNA A. BOEHLJE

SHEFFIELD - Erna A. Boehlje, 91, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Grace Baptist Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Bruce Rulapaugh officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield. Grarup Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Village Green Bible Camp, Lansing.

Erna was born May 31, 1908, in rural Thornton, the daughter of Deitrich Koster and Emily (Gerdes) Koster.

Erna attended rural schools near Thornton and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1926. Following graduation, Erna moved to Naperville, Ill., where she worked at Kroehler Furniture Factory three years. In 1929 she moved to Sheffield and worked at Schaefer's Department Store for three years.

On May 28, 1933, Erna was united in marriage to Ernest Boehlje at Grace Baptist Church, Sheffield. Following her marriage, the couple farmed first near Sheffield then purchased a farm east of Rockwell in 1941. Erna lived there until 1968, when she moved into Sheffield. She became a resident of the Sheffield Care Center last June.

Erna enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and china painting. She has always been an avid reader. She was active in her church, belonging to the various ladies groups and had been a member of the What's New Club.

Erna is survived by her daughter, Nettiemae Sisson and her husband, Gene, of Leo, Ind.; her son, Raymond Boehlje and his wife, Darlene, of Mason City; and a sister, Edith Schaefer of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Richard and John; one grandchild, Susun; two sisters, Lillian Fedelleck and Elpha Bloomquist; and four brothers, Henry, Albert, Raymond and Vernon.
