Jan married Vincencia nee Novotny and they had four children.
After the death of Vincencia in 1865, Jan married Marie Haman on November 2, 1869 and together with three of John's children, they immigrated to America on the ship "Pommerania" to New York in 1876. John's oldest daughter, Josephine, came to America with her husband and family in 1878.
The Havliks settled for a time in Wisconsin, where their daughter, Eva Marie was born. They then migrated to Nebraska, settling first near Wilber and later near Rushville. John was a farmer.
They spent their final years in South Dakota near their daughter, Eva Marie.
