TAZEWELL, Va. - Albert Brittain "Buck" Cornwell Sr., age 76, of the Thompson Valley community in Tazewell, Va., died Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Va. Born January 3, 1935 in Thompson Valley, Va., he was a son of the late Hallie Robert Cornwell and the late Mary Katherine Dillow Cornwell. Mr. Cornwell was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at Maxwell, Va. He retired from Appalachian Power Company as a Line Crew Supervisor after 26 years of employment. After his retirement, he enjoyed farming, and was a supporter of the West Virginia State Fair and the Tazewell County Fair as well as serving on the Tazewell County Fair Board of Directors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel Cornwell.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Mary Dove Asbury Cornwell; one daughter, Violet Neel and husband, Mike; two sons, Albert "Bucky" Cornwell Jr. and wife, Anna, and Robert Cornwell and wife, Elizabeth all of Tazewell, Va.; two granddaughters, Michelle Neel Fox and husband, Nathan of Tazewell, Va. and Brittany Cornwell Johnson and husband, Shane of Hope Springs, N.C.; three grandsons, Andrew Neel, Robert Cornwell, and David Cornwell, all of Tazewell, Va.; one brother, William Cornwell of Tazewell, Va.; six sisters, Vicie Vanhoozer and Mamie McClead, both of Chilhowie, Va., Delilah Vanhoozer, Florence Cornwell, and Mary Richardson, all of Tazewell, Va., and Virginia Cornwell of Bluefield, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend J.C. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Robert Cornwell, David Cornwell, Andrew Neel, Ritchie Bowman, Jack Futch, Tommy Tinsley, and Tim Brammer. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Hawks, Jim Graham, Robert Viney, James "Bub" Harris, and Dr. Eric Shrader.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011.
