Frederic was a prominent businessman. He practiced law (1872-1874); was the Cashier of the Wells Bank ((1974-1879), became a private banker (1879-1887); was president of Investment Co. in St. James, Minnesota (1890-1894); president of the Wells Bank (1894-1903), president of Watson, Thompson Farmlands Business Men's Union (1902-1904) and was the president of Dland Railroad. He was president of the Wells Board of Education.
