Irma Lee Johnson was born April 16, 1951, to the union of the late Jack and Bertie Johnson. She was the fifth of eight children.
At an early age, she was baptized by the Rev. Doc Pollard at Cypress Hall Baptist Church, Port Allen. Irma Johnson later joined New Sunrise Baptist Church, Port Allen. Her formal education included graduating from Cohn and Port Allen High school in Port Allen in 1969, as well as graduating from Grambling State University, where she earned her bachelor of science degree in social studies. Her professional career included working for the Louisiana Department of Social Services for more than 27 years until her retirement in 2004.
On Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 3:01 a.m., she was called to meet her loved ones in heaven from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 58, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Port Allen.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving and caring brother and sister, Irvrie "Ivory" Johnson and Beverly J. Johnson, both of Port Allen; two sisters-in-law, Mona and Wanda, of Port Allen; a special friend, Franklin Paul Williams, of Baton Rouge; four nieces, Kyana Johnson, of Baton Rouge, Catherine Dukes, of Fairburn, Ga., Lakeshia Tramble, of Baton Rouge, and Comaneci M. Johnson, of Port Allen; nephews, James Queen, of Atlanta, Calvin Queen, of Fairburn, Russell Johnson, of Port Allen, Michael Jones Jr., Irvrie Williams and Edward Glasper, all of Baton Rouge, Corey Norman, of Powder Spring, Ga., and Dewayne Norman, of Port Allen;
Irma loved to create beautiful floral arrangements and cooking all kinds of delicious meals. Irma was the best pecan and praline candy maker in the world.
Irma Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Gertie (Withfield) Johnson; three sisters, Katie (Johnson) Queen, Ophelia Johnson and Patricia Johnson; two brothers, Perry and Eli Johnson; and three nephews, Ronnie Queen, Carl Glasper and Charles L. Johnson.
