Bernice A. Benbo, 83, of Fertile, MN, died on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, MN.
Bernice Arloween Johnson was born on March 9, 1928 to Edwin and Gurie (Larson) Johnson in Winger, MN. She grew up and attended country school near her home. Bernice married Charles Benbo on January 6, 1951, in Fertile, MN. She was able to stay at home raising their family while Charles worked on road construction.
Bernice was a member of Faaberg Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies aid and circle. She had a large garden and canned her produce. She loved to cook and bake. Bernice always made sure her children had fresh baked goods every day after school. A favorite snack was left over bun doe boiled in water served with sugar and cream; it was called "Pig".. She enjoyed sewing her children's clothes, quilting and embroidery. After her children were grown she found playing cards, especially whist, a favorite pastime. She also enjoyed shopping with her daughter, Annette. Bernice loved being at home and cherished times spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Charles Benbo, Winger, MN, two sons, Bruce (Gwen) Benbo; Wayne Benbo, both of Winger, MN, one daughter, Annette (LeRoy) Halstad, Fertile, MN, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Leslie Adair Benbo in 2005.
Funeral services will be on Friday, August 19, 2011, at 10 am in the Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 18, 2011, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN. Burial will be in the Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rindal, MN.
