MRS. VIRGINIA ALVAU of Lethbridge,beloved wife of the late Mr. Paul Alvau, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday,August 9, 2011 at the age of 98 years. Virginia was born on September 13, 1912 in Piane Crati, Calabria, Italy. She immigrated to Lethbridge and arrived on December 24, 1948 with her husbandand three small children. She was an avid gardener, and even at 98 one could still see her in the backyard tending to her plants.Her garden was necessary to her well being and many family and friends enjoyed the fruits of her labour. She was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the CWL, as well as alife member of the Italian Canadian Club. Besides her loving husband Paul, she was predeceased by her parents, Michele and Chiara Lavorato, an infant son Anthony, her brothers; Alfonso,Armondo, Francesco, Antonio, Adolph and Carmine, and sister Giuseppina Mazzuca. Mom was the last of her generation. Virginiais survived by her children; Rosa (Nello) Gioia, Maria (George) Siegl, and Nick (Paulette) Alvau. Her family was her life and shederived great joy from her six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter, as well asnumerous nieces, nephews and their families. The family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses on 4A for their compassionate care of our mother. A very special thank you to Colleen for her kindness and attentiveness as her caregiver. All who knew her will always remember her saying, "I'me o.k." Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 11,2011 at ST. BASIL'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 13th Street North, Lethbridge. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday, August 12, 2011 at ST.
