John Leinweber was the second son born to Jacob Leinweber and Catherine Schneider. After his brother August married Rosina Stiegler in 1849 and moved to a farm of their own, John ran the homeplace for his widowed mother. Later John moved to Kerr County, where he met Leutwina (Luturine) Lange. They were married in New Braunfels on January 15, 1860. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Johanna Streuer Lang and was born December 27, 1841, in Hanover, Germany. She died 1914.
John served in the Union Army and was Kerr County Treasurer from 1867 to 1869. He was a stock farmer and had many cattle running on the open range. He died from injuries sustained from a run-away team of horses and is buried at Camp Verde, Texas. John and Leutwina had five children.
