From THOMPSON FAMILY HISTORY 1978:

Father was Ebenezer Thompson Sr. born in Scotland and came to America some time before 1768. Ebenezer had several children, but nothing is known of any except James Sr.

Born in Edinbrun, Scotland.
Married in Maryland March 16, 1768 to Anne Perry.
Served in Revolutionary War, Private, Maryland regiment.
Around 1800 he moved to Kentucky.
Had 8 Children:
1. James Jr, b. 10-nov-1768
2. John, b. 10-nov-1770
3. Margaret, b. 26-sep-1772
4. William, b. 25-jul-1774 d.20-jul-1775
5. William, b. 6-nov-1776
6. Ebenezer II, b. 8-oct-1778 d.7-oct-1865
7. Edward, b. 23-oct-1780
8. Ann, b. 25-feb-1782

James R. Thompson was the Son of Ebenezer Thompson and ??????. James a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. James married Nancy Ann Perry on 10 Mar 1767 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. They had 9 children: James Jr., John, Margaret, William, William F., Ebenezer II, Edward, Ann and Sarah.

Special Notes: James was actually born in Edinburg, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died in Blue Lick, Bracken, Kentucky.

James Thompson is verified as a soldier in the American War of Independence. He enlisted on December 10, 1776 as a private, in the John Hoskins Stones Co., Col Smallwoods Regt., (Maryland Archives Vol 18 p. 6) and is also listed as a Sgt. 1st Regt., Maryland Troops, enlisted December 10, 1776, discharged December 1779, and re-enlisted in 1781. ( p. 168)

James Thompson's SAR Headstone:

In April of 2012, there was a SAR dedication ceremony for the new SAR headstone that was placed at James and Ann Thompson's grave site near Germantown in Bracken County, Kentucky. Photos are from Dennis McClurg (descendant of James and his son James) who participated in the ceremony.

James Sr. was born in Scotland, I believe in the Glasgow area. He came to the US in 1761 at the age of 14 as a stowaway. He became an indentured servant to a carpenter in the Maryland/Virginia area. It is rumored he and his son helped build the original White House.
