Wanda Faye Austin (1929 - 2011)

Wanda Faye Austin, 81, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, in Mansfield. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Arlington First Church of the Nazarene, 1301 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, with Pastor Wayne Hicks officiating. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.

Wanda was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Dublin to Emila and Walter Boatright. She was raised in Dublin and was a graduate of Dublin High School. Wanda married her husband of 59 years, John R. Austin, on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948. In 1953, they moved to Arlington, where she and her husband owned and operated Austin Jewelers for 25 years. Wanda attended TCC South where she took presentation skill classes as well as creative writing and various exercise classes. She then went on to teach water aerobics at TCC for eight years until the age of 79. Wanda was a longtime member of Arlington First Church of the Nazarene, where she headed up the senior programs. She received the distinguished service award for 10 years of faithful service as the director of the Prime Timers. Wanda was also a member of the Forever Praise Choir and the Triple L Seniors Group at Fielder Road Baptist Church. Wanda enjoyed traveling, writing and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Austin. The family would like to give special love and recognition to Wanda's caregivers, Marilene Clay, Amy Lystig and Angela Sikes.

Survivors: Sons, Alan Austin and wife, Stephanie, and John R. Austin; brothers, Jack Boatright and wife, Dean, and Howard Boatright and wife, Gerry; grandchildren, Michael A. Austin and wife, Nicky, Kristin M. Austin and Amanda L. Austin; great-grandchildren, Ben and Ella Austin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
