US Congressman. Elected to represent Michigan's 4th and 5th Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1861 to 1863, and 1865 to 1869. He was defeated in 1862, and 1868. Also served as a Member of the Michigan State Senate for the 5th District from 1857 to 1860.
