He was born on June 4, 1930, in Madison, the son of Stanley and Margaret (Austin) Baxter. Gene was united in marriage to Joan Landsness on June 7, 1952. He worked as a mechanic for many years and retired from Monona Masonry. Gene loved farming and working on anything with an engine. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and his pride and joy, his new red truck. Gene is survived by his wife, Joan;
children, Diane (Bryan) Clapper, Shirley (Mark) Carney, Cindy (John ) Kuhn and Gene (Donna) Baxter; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Baxter;
and sisters, Bonnie Baxter and Paulette Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doretta Kloss; son-in-law, Ron Zimmerman; and a great-grandson.
