Helen Mary Yarnevich, 95, passed away July 27, 2011, in Prairie Village, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Private committal services will be held in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Lenexa, Kan. Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the home of Ernest N. Yarnevich, Jr., 5346 Belinder, Fairway, Kan. Helen Mary was born Helen Mary McLatchey on May 12, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Southwest High School. She attended Lindenwood University and graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo., with a degree in business. She worked for years as a bookkeeper on Film Row and later in life as a lecturer for Weight Watchers. On April 29, 1943, she married Ernest N. Yarnevich, Sr., while he was serving in the Army during World War II, and after the war resided in Kansas City, Kan., where Ernie had established his law practice. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pi Beta Phi Alumni Association, the Wyandotte County Bar Auxiliary and the Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church prior to moving to Overland Park where she was a member of the Church of the Nativity. Helen Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest N. Yarnevich, Sr., her parents, George W. McLatchey and Clara Siler McLatchey, and her brother, Kenneth D. McLatchey, and is survived by son, Ernest N. Yarnevich Jr. and daughter-in-law, Anne Yarnevich, Fairway; son, George Yarnevich and daughter-in-law, Margaret Yarnevich, Salina, KS; and daughter Carol Fields and son- in-law, David Fields, Sioux Falls, SD. Also surviving are grandchildren, David Yarnevich (Molly), Caroline Yarnevich, Kay Smith (Matt), Steven Yarnevich (Lynne), Christopher Fields and Kathryn Fields; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Nathan Smith, Connor and Caydence Fields, Lauryn Yarnevich and Sarah Yarnevich; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial donations to Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics, Resource Development Department, 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108, or the Alzheimer's Association , Heart of America Chapter, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
