Floyd was a young pilot who flew his biplane out of the Suitland airport (just up the hill a mile or so from this cemetery) on property that today is the home of the U.S. Census Bureau, among other U.S. Federal Government tenants. Also on the flight and killed was Joseph Ryan, who is buried in Upper Marlboro. Mr. Scott had had an amateur pilots license since he was 14 and had over 150 hours of flying time. He had been planning to enroll in the Fall semester at the U. of Maryland for a 2 year specialized course on flying aircraft. The Baltimore Sun newspaper had some differing information, including how some boys were playing baseball very close by and watched closely as the events unfolded.
It was determined that Ryan was flying the plane and caused the crash. Some reports said he was not in the right frame of mind to have been flying and others said he didn't have the experience needed to fly it. He didn't have two full arms, having lost part of one arm in an earlier accident.
