Doris Marie Bates, 82, of Harrybrooke Village, New Milford and Port Clyde, Nova Scotia, died Oct. 2 at Yarmouth Hospital, Nova Scotia. She was the widow of Walter E. Bates, who predeceased her in 1975.
Mrs. Bates was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Slateville, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Lester and Grace (MacKay) Slate.
She moved to the United States in her teens, and to South Kent after her marriage to Walter Bates in 1955.
She was a service representative with Southern New England Telephone Company for 33 years. Following her retirement in 1979, she moved back to Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Bates is survived by a son, Gary Bates of Gaylordsville; a daughter, Denise Jurasek of Newtown; and five grandchildren.
