On October 28, 1933, Elmer Julian Hogy was born to Joe and Helen Hogy in Farwell, MN. His brother, Waldo, left this earth on December 11, 2005 and his baby brother died on his birth day of June 13, 1936.

He grew up in the Glenwood, MN area, except for the time when the family moved to Orchard Heights, WA. His Dad worked in the shipyards during WWII. After the war, the family moved back to MN and purchased a farm in Terrace. Upon completing high school, he then went on to graduate from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN in 1950.

On September 13, 1952, he married Eunice Violet Kloehn and a daughter, Debra Kay, was born of this union.

In 1955, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Puerto Rico. After the military, he graduated from Hanson Mechanical School in Fargo, ND and became a certified Chevrolet mechanic. Later switching careers and retiring from Wilbert Vault Co. after 27 years.

His passion was genealogy and compiled his massive research into print to share. He traveled the globe to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Italy, France, Austria, Hawaii, Germany, Yugoslavia, Puerto Rice, Virgin Islands and Canada. He even took the Concorde over to Paris just for the experience. Back in the day, he water and snow skied, snowmobiled, hunted, fished, and enjoyed motorcycling. He had the unique ability to engineer or fix most anything. The Sons of Norway was where he spent many hours volunteering. Every once in a while, he would head down the road in his Grand Marquis and to put a few coins in a slot machine.
