Funeral services for Christina Joe, 32, of Standing Rock, N.M., will be held Friday, July 29, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center in Gallup. Presiding will be President James Howell of Crownpoint LDS Branch. Burial will follow at the Rehoboth Christian Cemetery in Rehoboth, N.M.

Christina was born May 17, 1979, in Gallup, into the Kinyaa'áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Honágháahnii (One Who Walks Around Clan). She died July 23, 2011, in Gallup.

Christina graduated from Sanders High School in Sanders, Ariz., and from the University of New Mexico-Gallup with an associate's degree in nursing. She was a full-time student at the UNM-G campus with plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing. She was president of the National Student Nurses Association from 2010 until the time of her passing, secretary of the UNM-G Veterans Association, and senator for the UNM-G Student Senate.

Christina was a staff sergeant for the New Mexico Army National Guard, 1116th Transportation Unit, Gallup Division. She served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Tallil, Iraq, from 2005 to 2006. She also served in LDS church callings as Primary President and Relief Society teacher.

Chris was a wonderful mother and wife to her husband and daughter to her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jason Joe; daughters, Chenoa Stevens, Ashleigh Jesse Joe, and Cadence Cori Joe, all of Standing Rock; parents, Mark and Nancy Stevens of Tsayatoh, N.M.; brothers, Marcus and Lucas Stevens, both of Tsayatoh; and sister, Cresentia Stevens of Tsayatoh.

Pallbearers will be members of the Army National Guard, 1116th Transportation Unit from Gallup, with escort provided by the Patriot Riders from Santa Fe, and Native Riders from Gallup.

A reception will be held at the Army National Guard Armory on Hassler Road in Gallup.
