Charles Robert Wood, age 79, of Manassas, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Prince William Hospital after a long illness with heart and kidney disease.

He was born in Cashiers, North Carolina in 1931 and moved to Highlands, N.C. in 1934 where he lived until he moved to Manassas in 1950. Mr. Wood served in the U.S. Army Engineers and was a Korean War Vet. He was a superintendant at Dittmarr Company until 1970 when he went into business for himself. Mr. Wood was the owner of Charles Wood Builders, Inc. in Manassas until his retirement in 1997.

Mr. Wood was a devoted husband, father, grand-father and great grandfather. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time together. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 54 years.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Phillips Wood. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Lynn Holloway and husband, Mike; two grandchildren, Gregory Holloway and wife, Lauren of Durham, N.C. and Lori Knapton and husband, Micah of Rustburg, Va.; six great grandchildren, Scout Knapton, Rowan Holloway, Sawyer Knapton, Alyssa Holloway, Blair Holloway and Major Knapton; two brothers, Eugene Victor Wood and wife, Betty and Larry Dean Wood and wife, LeAnn; two sisters, Juanita Burnette and husband, C.T. and Emma Jean Taylor and a brother-in-law and lifetime friend, Joe Crowe of Manassas, Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8006 Centreville Road, Manassas. Interment Stonewall Memory Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8006 Centreville Road, Manassas, VA 20111 in memory of Charles Wood for the installation of a lift.
