Mrs. Ruth M. Barone, age 92, formerly of New Castle, DE, died on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Millcroft in Newark, DE.

Ruth was born on August 26, 1918. She had a happy childhood in Wilmington with her father, Charles Mullin, a very talented carpenter, and her mother, Louise Polster Mullin, a homemaker. She shared her joys with her older sister, Dorothy Mullin Conte, and her brother, Daniel Mullin, both of whom predeceased her.

Ruth graduated from Wilmington High School and was captain of a winning swim team. She had a very promising career at the DuPont Company, but chose to leave her work there to dedicate herself to her family. Ruth was an exceptional homemaker, a great cook, a baker of the most wondrous desserts, and a skilled seamstress.

Ruth was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church for 61 years. She belonged to the Blessed Mother Sodality and was a founding member of the OLF Leisure Club, serving as president and secretary for several years.

For over 30 years, during the busy retail seasons, Ruth worked by her husband's side at the Beverage Mart Liquor Store, then came home and cooked a fine dinner every night. Ruth was a wonderful mother who enjoyed spending time with her children and babysitting her grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly.

Ruth's beloved husband, Charles, died in 2006. She is survived by her children, John C. Barone, Judith Swain Donavanik (Viroon), James P. Barone (Barbara), and Charles A. Barone (Kimberley); grandchildren, Kristen Swain Accisano (Patrick), Michael Swain (Carolyn), Erin Barone, Zachary Barone, Travis Barone (Tricia), Seth Barone (Paola), and Conor Barone (fiancée, Lauren Nahodil); her precious great grandchildren, Samuel Accisano, Nicholas Jude Accisano, Christopher Swain, and Declan Barone; stepgrandchildren, Daniel and Drew Donavanik; and former son-in-law, Kenneth Swain.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Millcroft Independent Living and Health Care Facility and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice. Ruth's caregivers showered her with love and respect. She always smiled and loved them right back. Ruth was a gracious and elegant woman.

Visitation will be held from 9 am to 10 am on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
