Vivian (McTavish) Branick, 90, Altoona, died Sunday.

She was born in Punxsutawney, daughter of the late Roy L. and Velma (Williams) McTavish. She married John J. Branick in 1953 on the "Bride and Groom Program" on CBS Television in New York City. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2011.

Surviving are two nieces: Lynn Crosson and husband, Robert, of Bullard, Texas, and Lynda Matys of Bowie, Md.; a nephew, David McTavish and wife, Karen, of Kennett Square, Pa and two sisters-in-law: Loretta Branick of Binghamton, N.Y., and Helen Branick.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Dr. Chester McTavish and Dr. R. Drexel McTavish.

Vivian was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School, a graduate of Pittsburgh School of Embalming and the first female licensed mortician in Altoona, a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her master's degree from Penn State University. She retired as a principal from Wright Elementary School in 1985 after 37 years of service.

She was the first woman selected from Pennsylvania to serve on the executive committee of the Pennsylvania School Study Council Inc., and she had written articles for the Pennsylvania Elementary School Principals Magazine. In 1973, she received special recognition for Wright School's development of new concepts in Blair County.

Vivian was a member of First Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher, Junior Department superintendent and recreational director for Bible school and summer picnics. She was a life member of the Blair, Pennsylvania and National Retired Administration Associations. She was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Altoona Chapter 290, and served on state appointments. She was active in many civic organizations and a member of the Altoona Area High School Foundation Committee.
