Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tues. at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary¹s Cathedral in St. Cloud for Rev. Allan P. Speiser, age 78, of St. Cloud, who died on Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Most Rev. John Kinney will officiate. Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum. Friends may call on Monday between 4:30-9 p.m. at St. Mary¹s Cathedral in St. Cloud. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements were made with the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Fr. Speiser was born Feb. 18, 1923, in St. Cloud. He was the son of Peter & Eleanor (Lauer) Speiser. He attended St. Mary¹s Grade School, was a 1941 graduate of Cathedral High School, & attended St. John's University for two years. He spent the next 6 years at the St. Paul Seminary & was ordained a priest on June 6, 1948, at St. Mary's Cathedral by Bishop Peter W. Bartholome. He celebrated his First Mass on June 13, 1948, at St. Mary's Cathedral. Fr. Speiser served the following assignments in the Diocese of St. Cloud: associate pastor, St. Ann's, Wadena, July 1948-June 1950; Sacred Heart, Sauk Rapids, June 1950-Aug. 1952; & Holy Angels, St. Cloud, Aug. 1952-June 1963. His pastoral assignments included: St. Anthony's, St. Anthony, June 1963-June 1964, July 1975-June 1983, & July 1989-July 1992; St. Nicholas, St. Nicholas, June 1964-June 1965; administrator, Immaculate Conception, Becker, March 1968-July 1970; pastor, Holy Angels, St. Cloud, July 1970-Aug. 1972; associate pastor, St. Francis, Sartell, Aug. 1972-June 1973; St. John Nepomuk, Lake Reno and Our Lady of Runestone, Kensington, June 1973-July 1974; Holy Cross, Butler & St. John's Bluffton, June 1984-July 1986; associate pastor, Holy Spirit, St. Cloud, July 1986-July 1987; pastor, St. Francis, St. Francis, July 1987-July 1992. Fr. Speiser retired in 1992.
In addition to his pastoral assignments, Fr. Speiser served as chaplain of St. Raphael's Home, St. Cloud, Oct. 1954-Jan. 1958. He was appointed Assistant Diocesan Director of CCD in 1964. From Aug. 1952-1963 & also June 1965 to Aug. 1972 he was a teacher at Cathedral High School, St. Cloud, & at St. Agnes High School, St. Paul, in 1974 & 1983. Survivors include sister & brother, Audrey Owen, St. Paul, & Clayton Speiser, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents.
