Cooper Review- Funeral services for William Arch Gilmore, 94, of 55 Southwest Third St, Cooper were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in the Delta Funeral Chapel. Long time friends Bro. J.D. Wheeler and Goebel Templeton officiated. The pallbearers were Jack Owens, Ray Holcomb, Charles McKinney, Ray Wilson. Dalton Bookout and Quentin Miller. Burial was in the Old Klondike Cemetery. Mr. Gilmore died Friday at 2:15 p.m. at the Delta Nursing Home, where he had made his home for the last year. He was born in Batesville, Arkansas, November 5, 1874 to John C. Gilmore and Lucinda (Haddock) Gilmore. On Feb. 23, 1896, he was married to Willia Hix, also of Batesville and to this union was born six children. Three died in infancy and three survive, a son. Lionel of Cooper and two daughters, Mrs. Ineta Holcomb and Mrs. Velma Apple, both of Dallas also surviving are six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. A brother, Lynn Gilmore of Batesville also survives. Mrs. Gilmore passed away on June 12, 1956. He had been a resident of Delta County since 1990. He was a farmer until 1929, at that time he became Custodian of Cooper High School. He retired from that position in 1949. He had been a member of the Methodist Church since early childhood. The family were members of the old Goods Chapel congregation before it became a part of the Cooper congregation.
