DORSEY - Elwood Shumpert, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at his home. He was born March 19, 1929, to the late Chester Lee and Cleta Wood Shumpert. He began barbering in 1956 and was the owner and operator of Fulton Barber Shop for 43 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo and a former member of Hopewell Baptist Church in the Hopewell community, where he served as deacon for 38 years. He also served as church treasurer and Sunday school superintendent at Hopewell.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with the Rev. David Langerfeld and the Rev. Frank Panzrino officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Garden.

Survivors include his wife, Tomi Rea Dodson Shumpert of Dorsey; one daughter, Teresa Shumpert Belk (Leroy Belk Jr.) of Tupelo; one son, Derek Elwood Shumpert (Camille) of the Auburn community; his grandchildren, Trae, Laura and Leah of Tupelo, and Zachary, Madison and Benjamin of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Oneil Shumpert.

Pallbearers will be Paul Finney, Billy Pannell, Thomas Christian, Joe Loague, Trae Belk, Rich Mattox, Joseph Moffett and Zach Shumpert.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Duncan/Moore Sunday School Class at Harrisburg Baptist Church; and Smith Heavener and Tony Mason.

Visitation will be from 7 a.m. to service time today.
