Yender, Andrew E. "Andy" 93, a lifelong resident of Lisle, IL, was born March 31, 1918 and joined his beloved family in heaven on July 2, 2011. Andy is survived by his loving daughter, Ruth Yender of Seattle, WA; his cherished granddaughters, Susan (Alex) Lopez of San Antonio, TX, and Kristen (Aaron) Lands of Lebanon, IL; and his special great-grand-daughters, Giuliana Alexis Lopez and Abigail Jane Lands; as well as many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Viola Yender; his son, Andy Yender, Jr. and his daughter, Arlene Yender; his parents George and Mary [Letcher] Yender; his brothers, George (the late Adeline), Paul, Ray (the late Marilyn) Yender. Andy was born on the family farm in the home that is now the Netzley-Yender House at the Lisle Station Museum. He was a graduate of SS Peter & Paul School, class of 1932, and Naperville High School, class of 1936. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps, 163rd Liason Squadron, 7th Air Force. He participated in action in the Pacific Theater including the Battle of Okinawa, until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Andy was a charter member, Past-Commander and lifetime member of the Ross Bishop VFW Post #5696 in Lisle. He was a charter member and longtime active member of the Lisle Heritage Society. He was a Trustee for the Village of Lisle and served on the Board from 1977-1985. He was a skilled carpenter and during his career he built over 45 homes in Lisle and the surrounding area. He had a strong Catholic faith and was a longtime member of St Joan of Arc Church, Lisle. For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Andy's life, memorials to the Lisle Heritage Society would be greatly appreciated. Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville and on Friday, July 8, from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Kingston & Front Sts., Lisle, 60532. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lisle Cemetery.
