Tunis was a son of Philip Peters (of German descent) and Catherine Quick Peters (of Dutch descent); he was born in New Jersey. He purchased land in Loudoun Co., Virginia in 1777; prior to this point, paid taxes in Loudoun, Virginia. Around 1782 moved to Hampshire Co., (West) Virginia, where he received wages for being the Sheriff. Between 1800 and 1820, most of his adult children moved their families to Pickaway and Fairfield Counties, Ohio; Tunis and Francinah then moved there, probably around 1812. Tunis was an Elder in the Baptist Church. FindAGrave Contributor Virginia D suggests that Tunis served in the Revolutionary War from Hampshire Co., Virginia. If anyone has located an official record of this service, please let me know and I will add details!
