In January 1822,when he was five years old, his family left Mississippi and headed for the Mexican Territory of Texas in an ox drawn wagon. They crossed the Sabine River and settled in what is now Jasper County. In 1824, John R Bevil arrived and established Bevil's Settlement and the Isaacks joined this group.
In 1835, Andrew Jackson was a private in Captain Martin B. Lewis' Company and participated in the Siege of Bexar on Dec 5-9. It is family oral history that he was also at the Battle of San Jacinto, but this has not been documented. In 1841, when he was 23 years old, he was elected as sheriff of Jasper County.
In 1842, he married Sicily Mississippi Beatty. Together, they had eight children, Elvira, James, William, Nancy, John, Caroline, Martha and Mary. By 1850, Andrew and Sicily were living in Liberty County, Texas and is listed as a farmer. From 1853 to 1854, Andrew was the first Postmaster of Tarkington Prairie, Liberty County, Texas, so it is probable that this is where he was farming. We know he was living there in the 1860 census with is wife and children.
In 1862, he joined the Confederate Army as a private in Company K Morgan's 18th Cavalry Regiment from Texas. He fought on 20 Sep 1863 at Chickamauga, GA.
On January 18, 1864, Andrew Jackson Isaacks died in Tarkington Prairie. Cause of death is yet unknown. He was originally buried in Tarkington Prairie, but in 1970 he was removed to Oak Shade Cemetery.
