Longtime Barstow resident Anthony Miles "Tony" Graham, 86, died Saturday, March 30, 2002.
Born Aug. 23, 1915 in McKees Rock, Penn. Graham served in the U.S. Army from 1934 to 1963. He was held as a prisoner of war from June 1942 until April 1945. During his service, Graham was awarded the following accolades: The Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, ETO Medal, U.S. Army Commendation Medal, American Camp Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, UN Service Medal and four O/S bars. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Graham was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 249 in Butler, Pa. where he was past commissioner, lifetime member of Kiwanis, Boys and Girls Club, lifetime member of Mojave Valley Senior Citizens, lifetime member of Elks, supporter of the Miss Barstow pageant, Circle K Club, Barstow USO and the Desert Rats/sheriff's posse and served on the Barstow College board of trustees.
He is survived by his brothers, Arthur Graham and Robert G. Graham, both of Pennsylvania; sisters, Ruth Saver of Florida, Dorothy Jenkins of Arizona, and Marilyn Tynan of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews, and guardian angels who saw to his daily needs. Graham was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Graham and Violet Riding Graham; sisters, Violet Marie Faucett, Barbara Ellen Graham and brother Ralph Gerald Graham.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Road. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the First Baptist Church, 1320 Barstow Road.
Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Boys & Girls Club, P.O. Box 204, Barstow, CA 92312.
