Murray Tucker Hafford was born in Tennessee, the son of John David "JD" Hafford and Almyrah "Myra" Jane Tucker. His father John David was a soldier in the Civil War. He was the grandson of William Hafford and Margaret Tinsley. Murray moved to Arkansas where he met and married his wife, Nettie Corenne Garrett. They had one child, a son they named John Lamar Hafford. They lived for many years in Arkansas, where Murray was a farmer and a barber. After WWII, they moved to Long Island, New York, to be near their son and his family. Murray died at age 82 in New York. He is buried beside his son in Riverhead, Suffolk, New York.
