He was born April 16, 913 in Chana to Thomas L. and Janet (Dodds) Schoonhoven. On July 5, 1943, he married Ruth Jorgensen in Creston.
A member of Faith Lutheran Church, Schoonhoven was a farmer prior to his retirement.
Schoonhoven was preceded in death by a brother, Roland, and a sister, Ruth.
Survivors include his wife, Rochelle; a son, James, Rockford; and a daughter, Margel Vronch, Winfield.
Funeral services were today at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lawnridge Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.
Local arrangements were handled by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.
