US Congressman. During the Civil War he was commissioned as a Major, US Volunteers, Additional Paymaster, in the Union Army's Paymaster's Department, serving from February 27, 1863 to June 13, 1864. He was elected as a Republican to represent Maine's 3rd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, filling the vacancy caused when Congressman James G. Blaine resigned his seat to run for the United States Presidency. Edwin Flye served from December 4, 1876, to March 3, 1877, and was not a candidate for re-election.
