Donald Allard, 53, of Newburyport, a former resident of Winchester, passed away at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport on Sunday, June 26th, as a result of complications from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident a day earlier. He was the beloved husband of Jayne F. (Canning) Allard for the past twenty-nine years. Don was born in Somerville and raised in Winchester, son of Anne (MacPhee) Allard and the late William K. Allard. He was a 1976 graduate of Winchester High School and a 1981 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. A talented Athlete, he played Hockey in high school, on the Army hockey team at West Point, and continued in men's leagues throughout his life, both as a player and a referee. Don was a proud Veteran of the US Army, having served as a field artillery officer stationed in various locales, including Germany, Colorado, Oklahoma, and New Hampshire. He was discharged as a Captain in 1987 after six years of service to his country. In 1982, Don married his high school sweetheart, Jayne Canning. They traveled together to his military posts before settling in Newburyport following his discharge from the service. Don's passions were dogs and motorcycles. He loved caring for his two dogs and was supportive of many animal organizations, particularly those training service dogs. He loved motorcycling, taking many trips over the years throughout New England, to Sturgis, South Dakota, and to the Rolling Thunder rides in Washington DC, demonstrating support for the military. Along with his father, William K. Allard, Don was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth.
