Rock Musician and Producer. Epstein was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1955, where he graduated from Nicolet High School in 1973. After graduation, he pursued a musical career by beginning to perform in such bands as MHB Experience, Egz, Winks, The Craze, and Firearm Smash in 1975. He later went on to work with such musical talents as Del Shannon, John Hiatt, Bob Dylan, Rosie Flores, Roy Orbison, Stevie Nicks, Dave Stewart, Cher, and Johnny Cash. In 1982, he got his first real gig, playing at the Santa Cruz Auditorium in Santa Cruz, California. That same year, he joined the musical group 'Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' as their bassist (replacing Ron Blair) and stayed for over 20 years before leaving the group and Blair returning as bassist. Also a talented music producer, he produced such music artists as Carlene Carter, who was also his longtime girlfriend. In 2002, Epstein was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
