Doris Elaine Golay, resident of Lindsborg, Kan., and former resident of Ponca City, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011. She was 88.

Doris was born in Tulsa, the daughter of Clyde and Isabelle Pinkerton Winner on July 15, 1922.

She moved to Ponca City with her family at a very young age and made Ponca her home throughout her adult life until the age of 80, when she moved to Lindsborg, Kan., to be near one of her daughters, Joyce Kurtz.

Doris and Arthur Lee Golay married on Jan. 19, 1941. They had three daughters, Sharon, Joyce and Judith. The family spent many yearly and memorable trips in Branson, Mo., where they stayed at the Sammy Lane Resort. They loved traveling to the Ozarks to see the foliage in the fall.

Doris was a charter member of the Mi-Ju-Ve Club as a young mother. The women in the group would bring their handicraft to work on while the kids enjoyed playing with each other. This group of ladies stayed together for over 60 years.

Her hobbies were knitting baby sweaters and caps, reading and working in her flower gardens. She was especially proud of her many variations of lilies. She traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Nova Scotia and on a cruise in the Caribbean. She loved watching baseball and had the opportunity to watch the Red Sox play the Mariners in Seattle.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Ponca City prior to moving to Lindsborg, where she attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee; and daughter, Sharon Lee Keen.

Doris is survived by daughters, Joyce and husband Richard Kurtz of Lindsborg, Kan., and Judith and husband Gary Wells of Lewiston, Idaho; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kan. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Resthaven Sunset Memorial Park in Ponca City.
