Attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, California. In WWII served in the Navy on the Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privater B-24s (739 were built) as a bow turret gunner aka tail gunner in the Pacific islands. First run business after WWII was a 5 and 10 cents store, 2501 S. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, California and was partners with his cousin Norm Waldman. About 1954 was the owner and operator of Gus' Hardware Store in Los Angeles, 107th and Central Avenue, first store was rented from Christensen Roofing Company. The next building of Gus' Hardware that Joe had constructed about 1960 was at 10707 S. Central Avenue which was destroyed by fire in the second Watt's aka Los Angeles Riots about April 29 and/or no later than May 4, 1992. Joe then had a 6,000 square foot building built after he retired which is currently at 10701 S. Central Avenue. Joe was a licensed pilot and owned a Cessna 140, year built 1946, FAA #N89572, serial #8615, which is still in operation. Look on Doris's Find A Grave for the children and grandchildren. Joe and Doris purchased their first home in 1955 in the new tract development at that time called Hollypark; 2517 W. 118th Place, Hawthorne, CA and lived their until about 1971. After that they moved and purchased a new residence at 3849 Paseo De Las Tortugas, Torrance, California. About 1985 Joe and Doris moved to a security gated, enclosed retirement development in Oceanside, CA called Leisure Technology and purchased a new detached residence within this community. Joe and Doris lived their happily doing many activities until Joe passed away from a heart attack caused by Celiac Disease and succumbed at Oceanside Hospital.
