Darline L. Bergmeier, 83, of Beatrice, formerly of DeWitt, passed away at the Beatrice Manor Care Center Wednesday morning, June 15, 2011.

She was born on March 2, 1928, in Beatrice to Martin and Hulda (Brandt) Scherling. Darline was a 1946 graduate of DeWitt High School and attended Fairbury Junior College in Fairbury and Concordia College in Seward.

She and Gaylord Bergmeier were married on Oct. 29, 1950, in Plymouth. She had lived in the DeWitt and Plymouth areas her entire life until moving into Beatrice in 2004. Darlene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt, the Patience & Hope Circle, had taught Sunday School, and had also attended St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice. She was a member of the American Legion and Eagle Club auxiliaries in Beatrice; had been a Hospice, Elder Care and Bloodmobile volunteer; and was a member of the DeWitt Historical Society and DeWitt Community Club. She enjoyed gardening, and baking. Darline exhibited and won many ribbons for her baked goods at county and state fairs for many years.

Survivors include three sisters, Leola Weers and husband Ronald of Diller, Delores Kessner and husband Theodore, and Sue (Alene) Glynn, all of Lincoln; nieces and nephews, including special niece, Susan Barnard and husband Matt of Beatrice; and three sisters-in-law; Elaine Scherling, Darlene Luehring, and Arlene Blobaum, all of Beatrice.

Darline was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Hulda (Brandt) Scherling; husband, Gaylord (2002); son, Douglas Bergmeier (1992); brothers, Arnold, Vernon and Milbert Scherling; nephews, Randy and Kelly Scherling; sisters-in-law, Rosanna Scherling and Aldene Rehm; and brothers-in-law, Alvin Rehm, John Glynn, and Vic Blobaum.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 701 N. Sixth St., Beatrice, with the Rev. David Kramer and Chaplain Doyle Karst officiating. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in DeWitt. Public visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice and at the church one hour preceding the service. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. A memorial has been established to the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt and the Oak Grove Cemetery with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge.
