SIRVETUS L. CURRY was born in Indiana, February 27, l840, and died at Weldon, Iowa, March l, l902, aged 62 years and 2 days. He was the oldest son of WILLIAM and HANNAH CURRY and came to Decatur County with his parents in l853, being a boy of l3 years. In April, l862, he was married to MISS SUSAN E. HOSFORD. To this union were born six children. On September 6, l893, the wife and oldest daughter, NATTIE MARIA, stricken with typhoid fever, both passed away on the same day and were laid to rest in one grave in the family lot in the cemetery at Green Bay. A son, BANCROFT, died January 24, l897, leaving a wife and two children behind them.
On the 3d day of June, l899, MR. CURRY was married to MRS. SHEETS. She still survives him. Failing health compelled him to lay aside the burdens of the farm, and in l90l the old place near Weldon was sold and a new home built in Weldon, where it was hoped that with freedom from care and with comfortable surroundings he might be spared for many years. But it was not to be. The seeds of disease were too deeply rooted. The last few months of his life were full of intense suffering, and when the end came it came as a welcome release.
The funeral services were held on Sunday, March 2, l902, in the Methodist Church at Weldon, Rev. Allen Judd, of Des Moines, a lifelong friend, officiating, assisted by Rev. Matthews, Pastor of the Methodist Church, at Weldon. His remains were laid away in the cemetery at Green Bay beside the graves of his loved ones gone before. He leaves two sons and two daughters and many sorrowing friends to mourn his departure.
When the new bank at Weldon was organized, MR. CURRY was made President, and held that office until his death. He was one of the pioneers of Decatur County, and his upright life and personal influence did much towards molding the social and political conditions of the community. He was a good citizen, a believer in the Christian religion, a warm friend, a kind neighbor and faithful husband and father. He was honored and respected wherever he was known. He was one of those rare men who grow better and kindlier as they grow older. His death was the gathering in of the well ripened grain. May he rest in peace.
