Martinsville --Robert Abraham Custer, 70, of 700 Forest St., Martinsville, died Sunday morning at Veteran's Medical Center in Salem. Born December 14, 1916, in Arlington, W. Va., to the late George Madison and Minnie Martin Custer, he lived most of his life in Martinsville and Henry County. A World War II Army veteran. Custer retired as a driver from Yellow Cab Company of Martinsville in 1981 with 46 years of service without an accident. Following his retirement, he continued to drive part-time until becoming ill in June. He was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Edna Buckles Custer of Martinsville; four sons, Bobby J Custer, William M. 'Billy' Custer and Jimmy T Custer, all of Martinsville and Robert L. 'Robbie' Custer of Bassett; three daughters, Mrs Carol C Mairose of Essex, Md, Mrs Ann C Westmoreland and Mrs Patsy C Boothe, both of Martinsville; a brother, Frank Custer of Forest Hill, Md; two sisters, Mrs Raymond (Ruth) Eames of Martinsville and Mrs Edd (Helen) Eanes of Baltimore, Md., and six grandchildren. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Greg Sexton will officiate. The burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
