Enoch Decent RUSHING lived with his parents Joel RUSHING and Susanna (Haile) RUSHING on their farm in Perry County, Illinois by 1850. Enoch married Nancy H. JUSTICE 27 November 1855 in Pinckneyville, Perry County, Illinois. They had six children, some with marvelously fanciful Greek Revival names (as was the fashion of the time): Martha Elizabeth, Susanna Serena, Evan Dolpheus, Levinadin Edna, Parthenia Anna, and William M. The family is listed in the 1860 census for Perry County, Illinois.

However, the death of his wife Nancy in 1870 prompted Enoch to move, with his children, in 1872 to Navarro Ridge, Mendocino County, California. Two of Enoch's siblings (Joel, his older brother, and Thomas, his younger brother) had already settled there, Joel arriving in 1862. Enoch appears in the 1800 census for Big River, Mendocino, California as 'D.D. Rushing.' His occupation is listed as Teamster.

At the end of his life, Enoch settled (or was a long-term visitor) at the home of his son-in-law, Ernest R. BRAYTON, in Spring Valley, San Diego County, California, where he appears in the 1900 census (where BRAYTON is erroneously spelled BROYTON). Enoch died there, but was buried in Sonoma County rather than San Diego County. He is buried next to his brother Joel P. RUSHING, in the same Cloverdale Cemetery as his daughter, Susanna Serena (Rushing) LEDFORD and her husband, Charles LEDFORD.
