John Gates was b. 20 Sept 1698 in Haddam, CT, He m. 19 April 1722, his cousin Sarah Fuller, born in East Haddam, 7 Aug 1702, daughter of Timothy Fuller and his wife, Sarah Gates. They settled in Westchester, Town of Colchester, before 24 Nov 1726. They were members of the church in Westchester at an early date, and he was elected deacon, 16 May 1740, being the third deacon in that church.

He died in Westchester, 8 June 1775, "a little before sunrise." She died in Westchester, 25 Aug 1784.

2. John, b. 19 Aug 1728.

3. Nehemiah, b. 17 Apr 1730.
