Veteran, Died Here Today
Aged Ridgway Man Had Been Ill Two Years - Aged 92 Years - Funeral Services Friday Afternoon
W. S. Ross, aged 92 years, a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on Grove avenue this morning at 9 o'clock follinga an illness of over two years. Funeral services, in charge of the Ledden-Young Post, American Legion, will be held from the lat residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Pine Grove cemetery.
Mr. Ross was born in Tarentum, December 18, 1843. He was employed by Hyde Murphy Co. at Freeport, Pa. and came to Ridgway about 51 years ago to work for the same firm. He was later employed for a number of years at the Hall, Kaul and Hyde Co. store.
Mr. Ross enlisted in September 1864 in Co. I, 5th Regiment Volunteer Heavy artillery. He participated in the conflicts at Salem, Rectortown and White Plains, Va. and the sectond battle of Bull Run. He was honerably discharged at Pittsburgh, June 30, 1965.
Surviving are one son, P. C. Ross of Buffalo, N.Y., seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grand children.

Funeral services for W. S. Ross, Civil War veteran, who passed away Tuesday morning at his home on Grove avenue, were held yesterday afternoon, at 2 o'clock at the residence. Rev. M. D. Maynard, rector of Grace Episcopal church, read the burila service.
The services at Pine Grove cemetery, were interment was made, were in charge of the American Legion, Ledden-Young Post, with a service Company firing squad assisting. Joh Martin sounded taps.
The pall bearers, members of Ledden-Young Post, were: I.G. Lunger, Frank Beck, E.G. Hoyt, A.A. Herzing, Fiske Clawson and Floyd Oliphant.
Members of the W.R.C. attended teh services in a body.
The out of town people attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ross, of Pittsburgh, and Miss Helen Dickosn, Bradford.
