Roy E. Ehlert Jr., 87, a resident of Whitman for over 50 years, died Sunday, June 12, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Marion (Simmons) Elhert. Born and raised in Hanson, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Ruth (McLaughlin) Ehlert. Roy was a proud veteran of World War II, having served on an air craft carrier in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. For his service, he earned a WWII Victory Medal and an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with two stars among others. He had been employed at Mercury Metals for over 25 years. Roys passion was riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and in later years, he also enjoyed golf and photography. In addition to his loving wife Marion, he is survived by his brother, Richard Ehlert of Vermont; and his sisters, Germaine DeMinico of Plympton and Jacqueline Vallencourt of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patricia Johnson. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 15, at 11 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
