AUGUSTA, Ga. - Catherine "Kay" Browning Caldwell, 82, entered into rest on Monday, June 6, 2011 at University Hospital. She was born March 30, 1929 in Windber, PA to the late James Chalmers Browning and Mary Catherine Redhead Browning. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and Katherine Gibbs Business School in New York City. Kay has been a resident of Augusta since 1956.
Kay served the Augusta community, including as President of the Women's Board of the University Hospital; as Cotillion Chairman of the Symphony Guild; and Board member for Interfaith Hospitality. She was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd for 55 years. She worked for Merry Land Investments for 20 years.
Kay was preceded in death by her son, Allen Fort Caldwell III. She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Caldwell Bailey of NY, Carole Ann Caldwell Lee of Chevy Chase, MD, and Roberta Louise Caldwell Humphrey of Summit, NJ; beloved grandchildren, Caldwell Mulherin Bernard Bailey of Washington DC, Larkin Woodward Bailey of New York City, Catherine Stuart Humphrey, Margaret Caldwell Humphrey, Gray Buchanan Humphrey, all of Summit, NJ, Lansing Burrows Lee IV of Chevy Chase, MD, and Michael Caldwell Dickey of Augusta, GA.
Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Church of the Good Shepherd with The Rev. Robert Fain, The Rev. Andy Menger, and The Rev. Lauren Hague officiating. Interment followed at Westover Memorial Park.
