FINDaGRAVE Contributor Jerry Hammond (#47087787) passed away at his home in Alexandria, VA on May 21, 2011, from leukemia. He was 69 years old, born 16 Mar 1942. An agricultural economist, Hammond had a 28 year career with the USDA before retiring in 2002 as Director of International Programs Division. He traveled to 35 different countries in an official capacity for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Soil Conservation Service, and the Office of International Cooperation and Development within the USDA. He was active in several professional associations where he held offices, including the Soil and Water Conservation Society, American Agricultural Economics Association, the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society and USDA Economists Group, of which he was President three times.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Victoria; brother, Bruce (Carol); sisters, Geraldine Percich (Marty), Eunice Normet (Eido), Lois Gallanger (Noel), Helaine Gallanger; half sisters, Ruth Cox (Dave), Lou Ann Gilbert (Chuck) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Herbert and sister Elizabeth Lampard. A celebration of life will be held for Jerry at the Veteran's Memorial Museum in Chehalis, Washington on June 11, 2011.
