Violet Louise Hamner was born on April 30, 1901 to Walter Herbert and Hannah (Rawson) Plows in Chariton, Lucas, Iowa.

She had seven older siblings:
1) Evelyn Ann Plows Wright (1885-1937)
2) Susanna Irene Plows Smith (1888-1971)
3) Elsie Mary Plows Adams (1889-1927)
4) John Henry Plows (1891-1948)
5) Thomas Herbert Plows (1893-1947)
6) Dorothy Dale Plows Williby (1896-1949)
7) Ernest Leroy Plows (1898-1958)

Violet moved to Memphis in the mid 1920's and initially stayed with her older married sister, Elsie Mary (Plows) Adams. Violet married James Edward Hamner Jr. on May 16, 1928 in Memphis, Tennessee. They had one child, James E. Hamner, III in 1932.

Violet was living in the District of Columbia, close to her son, when she passed. She moved there after her husband had passed.
