Lucille Alice (Dumont) Andrews, 66, of Cedar Key died Aug. 29, 2008 after a short illness at Shands Medical Center, University of Florida, Gainesville.
Born June 27, 1942 in Berlin, N. H., the first-born daughter of Roland and Florine Bertram Dumont, she graduated from Notre Dame High School in Berlin in 1960. She graduated as an RN at St. Louis Hospital in Berlin. Her nursing took her first to Hollywood, Fla., then to Gainesville where she worked at the Veterans' Hospital, Shands and finally North Florida Regional Hospital where she met her husband Dr. John Andrews.
In 2001 she and her husband moved to Cedar Key, which she came to love. She became much involved in the Cedar Key Historical Society and Museum where she and her best friend Jackie Padgett contributed innumerable hours helping to keep things running smoothly and promoting the museum.
She also became active in other aspects of the community with membership in the Woman's and Garden Clubs. She attended most city commission meetings and served on committees for the city.
She was a member and attended regularly St. John's Catholic Church in Chiefland. However she also attended Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key with her husband and helped with church functions there.
She enjoyed fishing and became an avid Gator fan.
While living in Gainesville she was a faithful member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was also proud of her French-Canadian heritage but was equally proud of adopting her husband's southern heritage and learned to speak French with a southern accent. She also enjoyed cooking and loved making old French-Canadian recipes learned from her childhood. She learned southern cooking as well but never learned to like grits.
She is survived her husband Dr. John Andrews; mother Florine Dumont of Manchester, N.H.; two sisters Mrs. Simone Routhier of Laconia, N.H. and Mrs. Louise Deshaies of Hooksett, N.H.; brother Roger Dumont of Quincy, Mass.; step-daughters Jennie Bryan of Louisville, Ky., Debbie Warden of Gainesville, Ga. and Vivian Graham and step-granddaughter Kelley Graham of Gainesville;. four nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key on Friday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. followed by a graveside service at the Cedar Key Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, Chiefland from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4.
